Habib ‘Umar’s “Prayers On The Beloved”

As-salaamu ‘alaykum,

The following salawat are from Habib ‘Umar’s Prayers on the Beloved.

This book is a collection of 82 prayers, which follow an unique formula.

Each prayer:

  • Calls on Allah by one of His Most Beautiful Names
  • Praises His Messenger ﷺ in a manner related to that Name
  • Asks Allah for blessings related to the Name mentioned.

In this way, each of these prayers helps us to beg Allah for “such amazing things that we are generally unable to think of when asking of Him.”

Here are some examples.

The forty-eighth prayer in this collection addresses Allah by His name “al-Ahad,” translated as “the Indivisible”:

اللّٰهُمَّ يا اللهُ يا أحَدُ صَلِّ عَلى عَبْدِكَ وَحَبِيْبِكَ سَيِّدِنا مُحَمَّدٍ النَّبِيِّ الأَحْمَد وَعَلى آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ وَسَلِّمْ تَسْلِيْماً وأَشْهِدْنِي بِهِ سِرَّ الأَحَدِيَّةِ لَكَ إِشْهَادا

“O Allah, O Indivisible, Send Blessings and abundant Peace upon Your slave and beloved, our master, Muhammad, the indivisible Prophet, and upon his family and companions, and through him, cause us to totally witness the secret of Your Indivisibility.”

The fifty-fifth prayer utilizes Allah’s name “al-Batin,” translated as “the Knower of the hidden”:

“O Allah, O Knower of the hidden, Send Blessings and abundant Peace upon Your slave and beloved, our master, Muhammad, the Prophet who knows the hidden, and upon his family and companions, and through him, rectify every apparent and hidden affair, and purify our inward states, and endow upon us to follow Your command accordingly, inwardly and outwardly.”

The sixty-second salawat calls on God by His name “Dhal-Jalali w’al Ikram,” translated as “Lord of Majesty and Honor”:

“O Allah, O Lord of Majesty and Honor, Send prayers and abundant Peace upon Your slave and beloved, our master, Muhammad, the majestic and honorable Prophet, and upon his family and companions, and through him, bestow upon us majesty, perfection and honor us in the way which is befitting of You, forever and ever.”

These prayers may be read individually or in sequence, occasionally or regularly.

Each prayer is given in Arabic, English translation, and transliteration using the Latin alphabet.

The translator describes this book as “small in size yet great in virtue.”
